Fourth week

12 maart 2018 - Grasmere, Verenigd Koninkrijk

It has been a month now that I’m in Grasmere, Lake District. A lot has happened in this one week. Last week I visited Kendal, which is a city one hour from Grassmere. Together with Romee, Barbara and Carlos, we needed to go somewhere to shop. Once being in Kendal we felt alive again. We missed a lot in these four weeks; such as McDonalds or other shops. I missed shopping, so I shopped a lot. We stayed like six hours more or less, because it was our day off. I liked Kendal because of the fact that everything is nearby and of course I had internet outside. Normally I don’t have internet in Grassmere due to the fact that it is surrounded by huge mountains. The wi-fi at the hotel is terrible. We haven’t had internet for weeks. It bothers me because on my day off I cannot do anything for my research or other projects.

When I was in Kendal I searched for a secondary school for my research to pay a visit. It was like half an hour of walk to the school. Once arrived at the school I explained them about myself and about my research. They gave me an e-mail to write a request letter to the headmaster. On my way to the hotel I wrote a letter for their permission to conduct my research at the school. The next day they responded that they apologised and rejected my request. It is really frustrating and I have no idea why they are so strict about visiting their school. If I had known that it is this difficult to approach a school, I wouldn’t have come to England.

But still there is hope for one school who are willing to assist me with my request and they are waiting for a confirmation. So fingers crossed!

Anyhow I have met some lovely people who are staying at the hotel. They are so kind and generous that they even gave me a present. They are a regular here and famous artists as well. I have seen their artistic work and I must say it was fantastic. People from all over the world buy their paintings. They told me a lot of stories about Lake District from the past which was quite fascinating.
