First week

Week 1

I planned my journey in January. On the 8th of February I came to London to visit my relatives. I stayed for a few days. During these days I visited a lot of places such as; Piccadilly Circus, the Tower bridge of London, Wembley stadium.

On the Monday the 12th, I boarded the train from Wembley Central to Windermere, Lake District. This was the first time that I was travelling all alone in a foreign country. I felt quite excited and anxious at the same time. How will my place be, what kind of a people I will be dealing with, what kind of a job will I be doing, were the questions that boggled my mind. During my trip I had to change trains. The train station at Oxenholme was so big that I got lost. After asking for direction I found my way to the train. Once in Windermere I called the manager to make sure if he is at the station. Unfortunately, I had no connection but still I was sure that he will be at the station to pick me up. To my surprise no one was at the station. I calmed myself and thought maybe there is traffic and he will be bit later. After waiting for more than one hour, I decided to ask some taxi drivers. Fortunately, I had the picture of the hotel to show them. After half an hour I arrived at the hotel and the manager told me that he had forgotten to pick me up.  Afterwards I met the owner of the hotel and the staff. All the staffs are from different parts of the world, which is really nice to make a lot of international friends.

The next day when I woke up, there was a huge leakage in the kitchen and few rooms were leaking. The leakage was caused due to heavy rainfall during the night. If you think this was bad enough, wait until you hear what else happened. The internet was cut off and the heating wasn’t working anymore. Imagine being in a remote place with no internet connection, no heating, and leakage everywhere.

The next day I got scheduled to work in the hotel. The work hours consists of five hour work per day. There are three shifts; morning, afternoon and evening. I have been given the morning shift, which means I have to prepare breakfast and do some cleaning work. Although, there are three shifts but it varies from day to day. Sometimes I have to paint the rooms or do the dishes.

During the week I have been outside just for once. I went to the local supermarket to buy some stuff. It was like 20 minutes of walking. I haven’t really had the chance to explore the area yet. I am planning to go hiking in the mountains soon.

Stay tuned!
